Smoke|Wire|Rock, the latest in a series of collaborations between Steve Walker and composer James Oliverio, features a panoramic virtual environment combined with live musicians performing onstage simultaneously with musicians at other locations across North America.

Smoke|Wire|Rock utilizes technology developed by the Digital Worlds Institute at the University of Florida and engineer Andy Quay, which synchronizes musicians, video, audio, and graphics across the high speed Internet 2 global network. Video and audio feeds of the performers at the remote locations are combined live with the widescreen graphics projected above and behind the performers onstage at the primary venue.

Oliverio composed the music and produced the event for the Ingenuity Festival in Cleveland, Ohio. Premiere performances were staged outdoors during the evenings of July 19 and 20, 2007 on the Festival Main Stage.  Eleven musicians from Alaska, Florida, Columbus, and Cleveland participated.  Walker designed and produced all of the visuals and the video presentation.   More info here.
